SINGAPORE uses a time zone eight hours in advance of UTC (Coordinated Universal Time; UTC+8 = GMT+8:00). Have you wonder why is GMT+8:00 and not GMT+1:00?
So how does GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) being calculated? The answer is... by using Singapore Longtitude! But... the actual GMT of Singapore is somewhere between GMT+7:00. Then where is the another +GMT1:00 came from???
Lets review the history!! =]]] In the year 1905, 31st May, our local time is GMT+6:55. During Japanese occupation of Singapore, it was GMT+9:00 (pls check japanese time if u dunno why izzit GMT+9:00).
What happen next?? After Japanese occupation, GMT was change again... and is until 1982, 1st January, GMT +8:00 is "born!" The reasons was about economic and political reasons. So in another words, we are waking up 1 hr earlier to work/sch and therefore working hours will be longer so that it can help the economic =x
